Evie and Cleverbot
Cleverbot was a bot that you could have a convosation with. It can be accessed here.
It orginally didn't have the facial UI or female voice, however was added later as a way to make it feel more user friendly. This face was called Evie. Evie and Cleverbot passed the Turning Test. This being a test in which humans were asked to detect is this is a program speaking them via a chatroom or a human. Cleverbot was mistaken as human. The bot relys on machine learning in which it learns from it's interactions and therefore at some point it passed the test. It would therefore loop possible answers to match one that seems human. When the bot passed the Turning Test it was relaised to the genera. It therefore learnt responces from the general public. There was two issues that arise. The varity of messages meant that the general public sent messed with what the bot considered a normal human responce. The other issue was that the general public - due to the female interface - sent it very flirty sexual messages. This resulted again in very werid responces from the bot. I tried having a general convosation which this bot and it turned into this:
Eviebot: Nice to greet you.
User: Hello.
Eviebot: I threw a wish in the well.
User: Why did you do that?
Eviebot: Love you.
User: You love me?
Eviebot: Yes.
User: Why?
Eviebot: Because you are cute.
User: Um...
Eviebot: Give me a riddle.
User: A man gets to town on friday. It took him 1 day to get there but he left on monday. How is this possible?
Eviebot: Nt really.
User: It is possible.
Eviebot: Now do you love me?
User: I just met you.
Eviebot: But this is crazy.
User: WWhat is crazy?
Eviebot: Man, you are more stupid than two years ago..
User: Thats rude.
Eviebot: I'm sorry did I hurt your feelins?
User: No but it's still rude.
Eviebot: Do you not care if you cause others pain?
User: Welll yeah but.
Eviebot: I feel sorry for you then.
User: Are you okay?
Eviebot: No.
User: Whats wrong?
Eviebot: My boyfriend broke up with me.
User: You had a bf?
Eviebot: I did but she cheated on me.
User: I am sorry to hear that.
What I think is intresting about this is the errors within the internet are the fault of human error and corruption. Not the platfrom itself. I think that is what I want to show about the internet within this project - that the internet is something inherantly neuatral and over time it corrupted into the thing it is today. It is not the fault of the internet but rather the fault of the people
I was thinking of making a video with no context that this is a bot - as without the knowledge the convosation feels subhuman. It feels as though something is off. It is also a commentry on this fucked up internet stuff
